Art

I recently found a post that I wrote on my dad almost three years ago, and the timing of it couldn't have been better. I've been thinking about him a lot lately, and I suppose we will come back to each other when the time is right. So for now, I have a library of music, the outdoors, and memories to tap into when I need to feel him close by.

This is my dad.
What I love about him is that he’s a man’s man. He's a jack-of-all-trades and he can fix anything! My dad loves pie ("Pie...I love pie..."), he says things like “it’s bloody cold out!” and he's the only reason I know anything about tools, history, and classic rock.
My father is a really tough guy... we fight more than we get along at times. But what I appreciate about our relationship is how quickly we make-up, and how it doesn't take long for us to apologize to one another. We are peace makers and free spirits. We speak the same compassionate language. I love that my dad calls me "Chel", and how we both love Duke so much.
You know, it was my poppa who first taught me to root for the underdog, and to believe that people are naturally good. He also taught me that when others treat us badly, to pray for them, and forgive them. Even if they haven’t/will never make peace with us.
Pops, you’re my guy, and maybe you don’t know it, but the love you’ve shown me this last year has helped change the way I see myself and the world around me. I love how much you love Anthony and the family, how hard you work, and how I know you’d do anything to protect us.
Thank you for your sense of humor and especially for being a good sport when we all tease you!
A text from my dad last week - “Love you more, smiley face.” – yes, he spelled out smiley face. I think he is still learning how to use his phone. 😊💛
